Writing Poetry

I never set about to write poetry;

the words kinda rearranged themselves onto the page

Worship The Sun

Watched the sun rise on Balmoral

It was an inspiring sight

A ball of fiery yellow

To herald the daylight.

God of the sun is Helios

Mythology Greek reveals

Rode his chariot across the sky

Constantly beating his heels.

Worship the sun; worship the sun

I look upwards and see the light

Worship the sun; worship the sun

Powerful star of great might.

During the day what happens then

When through the clouds it skips

Adventuring across the blue

Tumbling as it flips.

Some days it simply disappears

And hides behind the grey

What does it do, where does it go

When it is far away?

Worship the sun; worship the sun

I look upwards and see the light

Worship the sun; worship the sun

Powerful star that is so bright,

I saw the sunset end of day

It smouldered with great pride

Glowing orange embers

Horizon to collide.

Then it’s time to rest once more

And to the sun I pray

Contemplate the soul unique

Before another day.

Notes of My Song

Rain

I hear the rain falling in the night

Pounding on the roof; I get a fright

But quickly it is a joyous thing

Constant rhythms comforting.

It sounds fresh; a gift so free

From Zeus, rain god mythology

A meeting p’rhaps of others too

Who bring the rain for me and you.

There’s Chaac, to whom the Mayans pray

He strikes the clouds; there’s no dismay

Indra’s the one I know the best

Hindu legends stand the test.

Forget not Frey, the Vikings’ lord

Or Tialoc who brings Aztec reward

I think of them all as the rain tumbles down

Offering their gift to country and town.

The sound of the rain then lulls me to sleep

I wonder if you are now drifting deep

Into dreamland where lush green meadows unfurl

Thinking of me as part of your world.

I wake in the morning; it is raining still

I smile, rub my eyes, longing for my fill

Snuggling and cuddling right now in the light

Cradled in your arm; a lovers’ delight.

Petals open to the sun

Insects search nectar rich

Waves tumble to the shore

Never is there any glitch.

Be my sun, my nectar rich

The shore that beckons me each day

Best of me brought out by you

A melody for hearts to play.

Be the notes of my song

Irrespective of the key

Dancing up and down the stave

Tempo changing constantly.

Allegro, presto, piano, forte

Voice or instrument to trill

Major, minor, sharps & flats

Bringing harmony at will.

Piano and the violin

Carry melody with grace

There is elegance in tone

Something time cannot erase.

When notes & chords are right

They resonate a special way

Just like lovers in the night

Together locked forever may.
